Dean Gilbert Los Angeles County Office of Education Science Consultant and Curriculum Coordinator for NASA LIFT OFF Cal Poly Pomona |
The Alameda County Office of Education (ACOE) and the California State University, East Bay (CSUEB) have established a collaborative new project providing professional development opportunities for local high school science teachers. The programs of Project LIFT OFF are focused on NASA missions and science content. Summer Academies for high school science teachers will be offered through the East Bay Science Project (a joint project of the ACOE and CSUEB).
Project LIFT OFF piloted at CSUEB during the summer of 2009. In 2010, the project expands to include sister projects at Cal Poly Pomona and San Jose State University.
NASA's journeys into air and space have deepened humankind's understanding of the universe, advanced technology breakthroughs, enhanced air travel safety and security, and expanded the frontiers of scientific research. These accomplishments share a common genesis: education.
The Alameda County Office of Education's mission is to provide, promote, and support leadership and service to ensure the success of every child, in every school, every day!
